Chives

ChivesChives are a wonderful enhancement to even the simplest meals, such as scrambled eggs. Other common uses are in dips, as a garnish for potato dishes and in salads.

The smallest members of the onion family, Chives have been popular in European cuisine for hundreds of years. They grow wild in some parts of southern Europe but may have originated in the far east, like the other popular herb in the onion family: garlic chives.

Chives have a delicious light onion flavour. They’re a wonderful enhancement to even the simplest meals, such as scrambled eggs. Other common uses are in dips, as a garnish for potato dishes and in salads.

Chives are not only attractive and good to eat; they also ward off unwanted insects and are often grown in gardens for that reason.

Like many herbs, they can be dried but are most delicious fresh.
